Call for UK observers to EU election observation mission in Sierra Leone

Following the decision of the EU Commission to deploy Long Term Observers and Short Term Observers for the EU EOM Sierra Leone. WFD is now initiating the selection process for Long-Term and Short-Term Observers to observe Sierra Leone’s General Elections scheduled for 7 March 2018.

Please note that this Call for Candidatures is under the suspensive clause of a positive final decision by the HR/VP to deploy an EU EOM – as informed by the EU.

To be considered as a Long-Term Observer (LTO), you must be available over the following dates (indicative):

  • Deployment, scheduled for: 4 February 2018 to 7 April 2018  (Training session: 5-7 February 2018)

To be considered as a Short-Term Observer (STO), you must be available over the following dates (indicative):

  • Deployment, scheduled for: 1 to 12 March 2018 (Training session: 2-3 March 2018) (1st round) and  24 March to 2 April 2018 (2nd round)

As per recommendation from the European Commission, we will be only proposing candidates certifying their full availability for the entire period of the mission.

The deadline for LTO applications is Tuesday 11 December (23:59 GMT), and the deadline for STO applications is Thursday 4 January 2018 (23:59 GMT).

It is mandatory that you are also registered with the European Commission and that this information is kept up-to-date.

WFD will be submitting the names of up to 3 shortlisted candidates for the LTO position and up to 4 shortlisted candidates to the EU Commission.

The European Commission plans to inform selected LTOs by 22 December 2017 and selected STOs by 16 January 2018.

Please note that only British nationals are eligible to apply, and the working language of the mission will be proficiency English.
