"Our values of fairness, justice and equality of opportunity are applicable worldwide. The Labour Party is committed to ensuring that these principles are central to the work we do with political parties and governments. We wish the Foundation continued success in all its work to promote multi-party democracy and good governance around the world." Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown MP, Former Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party The Labour Party continues with its programme to support democratic development and good governance around the world. The Labour Party carries out projects mainly in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, in Africa, and in the former Soviet Union. Projects have also been organised in the Middle East, in Latin America, in southern Asia and in the Caribbean. The main objective of the work is to assist political parties of the left and centre left to develop their organisation and infrastructure, to assist them in their media, campaigning and election activity and to work with them to develop their political positions. The nature of the projects that are undertaken is extremely varied. The Party has supplied basic equipment, ranging from pencil and paper to computers and faxes. The Labour Party has set up training programmes on campaign strategy, membership recruitment, election canvassing and party communications. They work with local councillors and members of parliament from their partner parties to give them an idea of how their counterparts operate in the Labour Party. The Party has organised media training for key party spokespeople and run training courses on party development and on specific areas of policy. In all their projects they put special emphasis on involving young people and women in the political process. Wherever possible, they encourage all the social democrats in one country to co-operate and work together and they foster links between social democrats in the emerging democracies that often face similar challenges. The Labour Party coordinates these activities with its west European sister parties and foundations.
