Research Associate with translation/interpreter experience (x 3) – Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar

Starting salary: USD 2400 commensurate with experience

 

Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) has recently concluded a three-year programme (2016-2019) focused on strengthening parliamentary practices in the Parliaments of Myanmar. WFD will continue to deliver the programme for the next two years (2020-2021) in partnership with; the UK House of Commons, British Council, Irrawaddy Policy Exchange and other implementing partners, through other programmes involving MPs, parliamentary staff and CSOs, to improve the technical capacity of the parliament and to encourage MPs to engage effectively with the people they represent.

WFD is looking to recruit three Research Associates with experience working as Translators and Interpreters to support our programme of work in Myanmar.

This is an exciting opportunity to; join a dedicated WFD team who are committed to delivering programmes and activities aimed at strengthening parliamentary practices in Myanmar, engage with senior stakeholders at the heart of the issues and take part in national and international events.

As well as conducting vital research for the programmes, a key responsibility for this role will be to provide a range of communication services including, translating materials and acting as an interpreter for colleagues, MPs, senior dignitaries and other stakeholders.

We are looking for individuals with experience of delivering research and analysis services, with;

Exceptional communication skills – written and spoken including advanced English language skills and proven experience of producing proposals and reports.

Previous experience translating materials into the official language of Myanmar.

Strong diplomatic skills and ability to influence and negotiate with senior officials, politicians, and representatives of international organisations and NGOs
