WFD works with local partners to promote women's political leadership worldwide. WFD is focused on creating an inclusive and supportive environment in the ASEAN region that enables politically active women to participate in and assume leadership roles in national, local, and regional politics.
Banjul / London – Westminster Foundation for Democracy’s (WFD) Thematic Election Expert Observation Mission (TEEOM) has today issued its Final Report on the 4 December 2021 Presidential Election in The Gambia.
Across the world, WFD works on accountability and transparency, elections, participation and openness, inclusion, environmental democracy, and women's political leadership.
Alongside the programmes we directly implement, WFD supports the international work of UK political parties, including the Labour Party, which is working to support women’s leadership in Africa and the Middle East.
WFD has been collaborating with the Lebanese parliament since 2006 and has implemented more than 10 programmes over the last 15 years. Our work focuses on:

WFD MENA conducted a political economy analysis to understand the dynamics behind the political landscape in Kuwait and identify feasible pathways for change in relation to women’s political leadership. WFD's analysis generated insights on the key obstacles to women’s candidacy in Kuwait. Additionally, the means by which to determine the appropriate entry points, actors, and knowledge required to more effectively support women as candidates were explored.
It is important that we ask about women's rights and needs and girls rights and needs in the same breath, argues WFD's Magdalena Randall-Schab. Doing so will help us strengthen the leadership of women and girls.

Recognising the media's pivotal role to support women’s political leadership, WFD partnered with Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Communication Arts and the Thai Journalists Association. Together, they conducted a series of workshops from February to June 2023 for 20 journalists across various media platforms in Thailand, focusing on gender-sensitive reporting. Following these workshops, this document titled "Manual for Journalists in Reporting with a Gender Justice and Gender Sensitivity Perspective" in Thai language was produced, serving as a vital guide for journalists covering political news and sexual harassment cases with sensitivity and justice.

The Western Balkans Democracy Initiative (WBDI) works with seven parliaments, public institutions, political parties and civil society organisations across five countries to improve representation of women, young people and persons with disability in political processes that impact on their lives. WBDI will support political parties to make their internal structures more democratic and responsive to marginalised groups policy needs.
The survey conducted by WFD provides insights about the level of political awareness among Serbian citizens, their outlook on domestic political issues and progress, viewpoints on the status of women and youth in society, and their stance on current international affairs.

WFD has been active in Tunisia since 2011. Our work focused on supporting the Tunisian legislature on constitutional drafting and strengthening the parliament’s oversight, legislative and representative roles. We also worked with Tunisian political parties to promote the leadership of women and youth, and supported civil society to inform and influence policy making.
Strengthening democracy is an ongoing process. Since 2017, WFD has been working in The Gambia to strengthen the structures and processes of its parliament and to promote greater public involvement in and engagement with political processes. WFD has also been supporting the inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities, women, and young people in political leadership and processes in the west African country by partnering with political parties and civil society organisations (CSOs).
