Training for UK observers for election observation missions - LTO Training

Our Long-Term Observer (LTO) training provides knowledge and skills required for those aspiring to become LTOs in future OSCE/ODIHR missions. The course will take place from Monday 28 to Wednesday 30 March 2022 from 09:00-17:00 in Westminster, London.

WFD is excited to offer a Long-Term Observer (LTO) training designed to provide knowledge and skills required for those aspiring to become LTOs in future OSCE/ODIHR missions.

Participants will become familiar with the background to election observation and an understanding of how missions use international standards in their work.

Participants will understand the diverse aspects of the role of an LTO, what is required of them, how they go about their observations and reporting, the increased focus on digital aspects of an election and the relevance of the Code of Conduct on a mission.

By the end of the training, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of what an international election observation mission is, what the role of an LTO and what some of the best practices and skills are for doing the job well and coping with challenges which may arise.

To be considered for a place on the LTO training you must:

  • Be a UK passport holder
  • Have participated in at least 3 STO Mission in the last 2 years with OSCE/ODIHR or the EU
  • Have completed the ODIHR online course, other STO training will be looked on favourably 
  • Be actively seeking opportunities for your first LTO deployment

The course will be facilitated by experienced international and renowned trainers over three days. The course will be conducted in person.

The course will take place from Monday 28 to Wednesday 30 March 2022 from 09:00-17:00 in Westminster, London. On the completion of the course, you will receive a certificate.  

Due to available funding and by exception, we are able to offer this training free of charge. Subject to funding, WFD might charge for future LTO trainings.
               

 Application deadline and selection process

Applications should be submitted to WFD before 17 March 2022, 23:59 (GMT).


Successful applicants will be informed by 21 March 2022.

If you have not heard anything by the 22 March, please assume you have not been selected.

Due to the anticipated high quantity of applications, WFD is unable to provide feedback to unsuccessful applicants.  


Successful applicants are responsible for their travel and accommodation. 


WFD will not make any arrangements nor carry any costs for travel and accommodation.
