WFD is a global organisation working to strengthen democracy around the world. As ever, but especially during the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, our priority is to support our staff and safeguard those we work with.

That is why we are taking action across our programmes to minimise the risk of transmitting COVID-19. We urge our staff and contractors to follow guidance and regulations issued by local health authorities. In the UK, this means that our staff are required to work from home, and similar measures are in place in some other WFD offices.

WFD will continue operating and supporting our partners as democracies everywhere respond to the pandemic. We are using alternative ways of delivering many of our activities, and are embracing creative suggestions of novel ways of sharing expertise and advice.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is having a profound impact on individuals, families and communities, as well as on governments and public institutions.  Transparency, accountability and inclusion are just as critical during this crisis as they were before it and will be once it has passed. WFD will continue to work to support democracy and human rights as we all – as family, friends and colleagues – do everything possible to deal with the pandemic around the world.
