Summary

Under the UKAID-supported programme “Advancing Environmental Protection, Climate Change and Democratic Resilience in Georgia: Phase 2”, the WFD presents a qualitative study “Capacity Challenges, Gaps, and Needs Assessment of Georgian Media for Improved Climate and Environmental Reporting”.

To identify the gaps and challenges in the Georgian media landscape in terms of covering climate and environmental issues and to assess the needs of Georgian media organisations as well as individual reporters, a qualitative study was conducted. The study consisted of three main methods of data collection and validation: a desk review of secondary sources, semi-structured interviews of relevant stakeholders, and a validation workshop.

The document, which was prepared with the involvement of media representatives, is divided into two main parts:

  1.  Needs Assessment: What are the main challenges, gaps, and needs in terms of climate and environmental reporting in Georgian media
  2.  Action Plan: What needs to be done to improve the coverage of climate change and environmental issues in Georgian media.

This document does not necessarily represent the views of either the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), the UK Government and NNLE Climate Basics. It is published under the responsibility of the authors.
