The effective functioning of democracy relies on individual and institutional behaviour being regulated and shaped by norms and standards. Understanding how best to influence these norms and standards and their application in specific country contexts remains a challenge. WFD’s research in this area looks at the political economy of the creation and enforcement of international and regional benchmarks and conventions across several thematic areas, drawing from our experience working across parliaments, political parties, civil society, and elections.
