Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) recently organised a conference to help combat violence against women in politics. Discussions focused on strategies to reduce gender-based violence and promote the involvement of women in the political sphere.
At WFD, we believe that the power of people is the most transformative force on earth. Over the last 30 years we have actively helped democracies to grow stronger, so that freedom and prosperity can flourish.
This policy paper examines how political party strengthening contributes to democracy promotion and identifies where these approaches work best. The evidence suggests that the sister-party model – a model centred on relationships between parties with similar ideological positions – has value, but that it would be more effective if it were deployed more strategically.
