WFD is helping to make democracy meaningful to citizens in Nigeria by promoting inclusive, open, and transparent governance that responds to the voices of its citizens. Our activities support the expansion of democratic space and aim to increase the participation of young people, women, and persons with disabilities. To achieve this, WFD works closely with core democratic institutions, including the legislature, political parties, civil society, election management bodies, and the media.
Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) has played a key role in advancing democratic development in Georgia by strengthening governmental institutions, promoting parliamentary effectiveness, supporting media, empowering civil society organisations, and improving environmental governance.
Since 2009, Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) has worked to strengthen democracy in Kenya. Its programmes have supported the National Assembly, Senate, and County Assemblies to enhance their effectiveness in representation, legislation, and oversight; promoted greater political participation by youth and persons with disabilities; facilitated initiatives on environmental democracy; and advanced the use of digital technologies to support democratic governance. These efforts are particularly relevant in Kenya’s dynamic political context, characterised by an evolving system of devolution, a competitive multiparty environment, and a growing demand for more inclusive and accountable governance.
Dr Inaya Ezzeddine, a Lebanese MP from the Tyre province in the south, has amassed an impressive record in parliamentary work over the last four years, which has contributed to the country’s resilience and stability. WFD supported MP Ezzeddine to help respond to the Lebanon multi-crisis, in which taxpayers have been hard-pressed to meet basic needs.

Bringing together women politicians from different religious, ethnic, and political party backgrounds, WFD’s “More than a Quota” programme encouraged them to come together to address barriers to political participation for women in BiH and tackle issues that are important to citizens.
Jordan is a small upper-middle-income country known for its stability in a turbulent region. However, it faces significant socio-economic, environmental and political challenges due to regional instability, the impact of the global financial crisis, the Arab Spring and conflicts in neighbouring countries. Politically, Jordan has a history of monarchical rule combined with attempts at democratic governance. Although political parties are legally recognized, government controls have often stifled political activity, leading to periods of inactivity and recovery.
Over the past 14 years, WFD has partnered with the Moroccan Parliament to advance democratic governance through accountability, transparency, and inclusion. This article highlights ten key achievements—among many—that reflect the progress and enduring impact of this collaboration.

From January to March 2025, WFD’s Grant-in-Aid (GIA) programme in Kenya advanced key reforms to strengthen legislative transparency and accountability. Highlights included supporting corruption-proofing of legislation, fostering long-term policy planning in the Senate, and enhancing public debt oversight in the National Assembly.

Highlights include the launch of the Political Party Performance Index, the rollout of post-legislative scrutiny in Oyo State, and progress on disability inclusion.
